Jessie barely survived her fight against Nilcia, the Design, and his words left her badly shaken; now that she knows she’s ushering in the end of a whole world, she half-hopes they won’t even find the remaining Luciere. Cleista is desolate with grief at the betrayal and death of his oldest friend, and his mind and memory are continuing to deteriorate. Nobody is doing fine.
Which makes it the perfect time for a ruthless ambush by Moranai, the Tower. The former head of security for the Festival mission has spent months consolidating his resources and power, and when he manages to disable Cleista, Jessie must fight her most fearsome opponent yet with only a fraction of her normal strength.
And finally, soul-sick and bone-weary, they face a final reckoning with Melciel, the Nail, who has sworn to reclaim her beloved Cleista from Jessie’s corrupting influence, no matter who or what she must destroy to take him back.
